“We are all just trying to do life!” Such a cry goes up from many humans. What does that mean? Could it be having the courage to ask for help? I am passionate about assisting people to find wholeness. To this end, I treat anxiety, trauma, depression and family problems with skill and sensitivity. Parents who need help parenting, children who suffer from a trauma, teens who are depressed and stressed out, couples who can’t figure out why they are fighting so much when they really love each other, women who struggle with low self-esteem, people of any age who are very lonely, all need someone to help them sort out their challenges.
I use CBT, EMDR, Narrative therapy, Gottman marriage therapy, family therapy, and others, but my specialty is wise and careful listening. Often people do not know what they can do in the overwhelming situations that they find themselves in. I bring a different perspective, years of counseling experience, a significant amount of training, a tremendous amount of life experience, and much understanding to help clients.
Prior to being a therapist, I was a high school teacher for thirty years. I completed my master’s degree in Adlerian Psychotherapy and Counseling in 2006, and have since worked with families, adolescents, and children as a licensed marriage and family therapist. I enjoy counseling children ages 6-12, teens, families, and adults. I taught as an adjunct instructor at Adler Graduate School, Richfield, MN, and enjoy teaching workshops, particularly on how to bring healing to victims of trauma. Recently my books Jump-Starting Boys: Help Your Reluctant Reader Find Success in School and Life and Why is the Driveway on Fire? were published, an expression of my passion for teaching parents the skills they need. My latest book is Harmony Within: Engaging in Faith-Based Self-care. Born & raised among Native Americans, I have lived and worked overseas. My husband and I live in Chanhassen, MN and like to bicycle and travel. We have three grown sons, three daughters-in-law, and seven grandchildren.
